Lashuay




The correct spelling of this name has always been a question. Land records for Alexander Elixir Lashuay are listed as Lashaway, his son, a bank president spelled his name Lashuay. There is no marker at Alexander's gravesite in Rudolph, OH to help clarify the spelling. The accepted French spelling is Lajoie, pronounced LA-joe-way, or LA-zho-way.



Gen 8:
Alexander Elixir Lashuay was born about 1800 in Canada and died 1 Dec 1887 in Wood Co., OH.

Alexander married and had three sons:

  1. John Lashuay was born 26 Apr 1832 in Buffalo NY.
  2. James Magwere Lashuay was born 14 Feb 1838. See Generation 7 below.
  3. Alexander Elixir Lashuay was born 8 Jul 1839 in Monroe Co., MI and died 11 May 1916 in Bowling Green, Wood Co., OH. He married Charity Electra Mercer and they had four children: Abraham Manson, Harriet A, Dana Cline, and Clarence B Lashuay.

Alexander's wife died and he married second Julia Ann Rebadue.

Alexander and Julia had two children:

  1. Benjamin Franklin Lashuay was born 30 Jun 1845 in Monroe Co., MI and died 6 Aug 1877. He married Martha Ann Matthias 6 Feb 1865 and they had six children: William Harrison, George Benjamin, Franklin Anthony, Lillie Roena, Archie May, and Susie Jeanette Lashuay.
  2. David Lashuay was born about 1846 in Wood Co., OH and died about 1918. He married Emmeline Mowen 28 Jan 1869 and they had four children: Alexander, Joseph W, James T, and Clara Teresa Lashuay.




Gen 7:
James Magwere Lashuay was born 14 Feb 1838 at Settlement Michigan Bay, Monroe Co., MI and died 2 Apr 1922 probably in OH. James married Mary Ann Mowen 26 Nov 1861 in Wood Co., OH.
Mary Ann Mowen was born 6 Apr 1846 and died 3 Jun 1916.

James and Mary Ann had seven children:

  1. David L Lashuay was born about 1865 and died about 1943. He married Alma Beeman 18 Aug 1892 and they had at least one child, Hazel Lashuay.
  2. Jacob Lashuay was born in Mar 1867. See Generation 6 below.
  3. Andrew Frederick Lashuay was born 10 Oct 1868.
  4. Charles Lashaway was born 18 May 1873.
  5. Vern Lashuay was born 19 Sep 1876.
  6. Catherine Lashuay was born 15 May 1880.
  7. Rollo Grover Cleveland Lashuay was born 2 Aug 1884.




Gen 6:
Jacob Lashuay was born in March 1867 in Wood Co., OH and died 3 Oct 1915. He married Sarah Jane Whitney 5 Aug 1890.
Sarah Jane Whitney was born in October 1875 in OH and died in 1959 in Weston, OH. She was the daughter of Sarah Jane Cornell and George W Whitney.

Jacob and Sarah had five children:

  1. Martha Daily Lashuay was born 5 Jan 1892 and died 14 Oct 1978.
  2. Hamilton Comfort Lashuay was born 1 May 1894. See Generation 5 below.
  3. Dawn Salana Lashuay was born 7 Jan 1900 and died 1 Apr 1917.
  4. Clella Ithemer Lashuay was born 29 Nov 1902 in Perrysburg, OH.
  5. Thelma Loretta Lashuay was born 14 Sep 1908.




Gen 5:
Hamilton Comfort Lashuay was born 1 May 1894 in Weston, OH and died 26 May 1968. He married 15 Nov 1915 Rosa May Hartranft. He is buried at Ottawa Hills Memorial Cemetery, Lucas Co., OH.
Rosa May Hartranft was born 24 Mar 1899 and died 13 Oct 1983 in Toledo, OH. She was the daughter of Etta Johnson and William John Hartranft.

Hamilton and Rosa May had four children:

  1. Bernadine Lashuay was born 25 Aug 1918 in OH and died 16 Jun 1993.
  2. Donald Lashuay was born 16 Sep 1920. See Generation 4 below.
  3. Gerald Lashuay was born 18 Jun 1925 in OH.
  4. Vaughn Lashuay was born between 1916 and 1917 and died 12 Sep 1917.

Donald Lashuay was born 16 Sep 1920 in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH and died 19 Jul 1999 also in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH. He married Norma Joan Specht.
Norma Joan Specht was born 25 Jun 1921.
